This checklist is incomplete. It includes a couple of examples in each section as a starting point, not a full audit. Additional checks depend on your website, business, and the search platforms involved.
How to use: Review the sections and example checks below to identify areas that may need attention.Run the automated checker →
1. Search Crawler Access
Check whether the search tools you want to reach can access your public website.
Review robots.txt
Check that your public service pages are not unintentionally blocked from search crawlers.
Review AI search bots
For example, check access rules for OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, based on which platforms you want to allow.
2. Website Context & Sitemaps
Help tools discover your pages and understand what your business offers.
Keep an up-to-date sitemap
Include your important service, location, and article pages in sitemap.xml.
Consider an llms.txt summary
If you use this experimental format, include accurate business facts and useful page links. Support varies; it is not a guarantee of AI visibility.
3. Structured Business Information
Use structured data to describe your business and pages consistently.
Identify the business accurately
Use Organization or applicable LocalBusiness schema with verified contact details. Include a street address only for a real public business location.
Describe page relationships
For example, use breadcrumb markup to show where a page belongs. Validate markup and make sure it matches visible content.
4. Voice & Read-Aloud Readiness
Make important information easy to read, understand, and hear.
Use clear headings and short summaries
Make the main service or answer understandable without reading the entire page.
Review speakable markup where applicable
If a supported platform and content type use it, target actual page text. It is not a universal requirement for AI search.
5. Helpful, Answer-Ready Content
Answer real customer questions directly and support your claims.
Give direct answers to common questions
For example, add a short answer near the top of an article or a helpful question-and-answer section on a service page.
Use current, verified facts
Only include prices, timelines, or results you can support. Explain what affects the answer when specifics vary.
6. Indexing & Useful Page Coverage
Make sure your important pages are discoverable and genuinely useful.
Create useful service and location pages
Provide distinct information about real services and areas you serve, rather than duplicating pages with different city names.
Review search engine indexing
Check important pages in Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools and submit your sitemap where appropriate.
